Good grief! I simply do not feel old enough to be attending our Twenty-fifth Reunion. Witnessed in past years as both an undergraduate volunteer and an impressionable teenage attendee, those guys looked a lot older than I hope we do now!

I loved my years in Cambridge. Harvard was the first community of people amongst whom I did not feel so terribly different. I had wonderful roommates, teammates, and fellow midshipmen, and was blessed to come away with lifelong friends. I participated in pursuits both new and familiar at a level that I could not have imagined before arriving, and drank in rich experiences, both literally and figuratively! I barely remember the struggles, but the laughter has been indelible. My path was hardly a straight line to success, resembling more closely a tacking duel between the enlightened and obtuse, fortunately optimized to a desirable result in the end.

By far the greatest gift Harvard bestowed upon me was also accepting into the formidable Class of ’89 the beguilingly beautiful and intelligent Olivia H. Zanft. Post my naval service and her medical school, she did me the distinct honor of becoming my bride.

We have raised our five children until recently in Manhattan, and now Bronxville. Aged seventeen to seven, they are our life’s work. I have loved being a dad, roller coaster and all, and with good fortune realized a destiny beyond even exceptional expectation.

I extend best wishes to all the members of our Class and look forward to our gathering in Cambridge in May.
